Districts
- Old Batumi (Old Town)
- Low-rise streets around Europe Square and the Piazza, with shops, cafes and the port close by. It is lively all year and noisy in summer.
- Old Boulevard
- Older residential blocks behind the seafront park. The promenade is at the door and everyday shops are a few streets inland.
- New Boulevard
- High-rise towers along the newer stretch of seafront towards the airport. Sea views are easy to find; a year-round grocery within a walk is less certain.
- Rustaveli
- The avenue parallel to the sea, lined with hotels and apartment buildings. Central, with steady traffic.
The harder question when choosing where to live in Batumi is what the street is like out of season. Batumi neighborhoods differ less by distance than by season. A tower on the New Boulevard can sit among cafes in July and closed shutters in January. Is Batumi a good place to live? For people who want the sea and a small city, yes, provided they accept wet winters and a quiet off-season. Batumi is one of the rainiest places in Georgia.
If you want to rent an apartment in Batumi long term, check the address rather than the view. The best area to live in Batumi for a year is usually one where the grocery, the pharmacy and the bus stop stay open for residents after the summer visitors leave. The railway station is outside the center, and Chavchavadze Street carries much of the through traffic.
