Districts

City center
The streets around the Colchis Fountain, the Green Bazaar and the White Bridge. Fresh food, cafes, the theater and bus stops are all a short walk apart.
Ukimerioni (Bagrati hill)
Houses with gardens on the right bank below Bagrati Cathedral. Quiet and green, with a steep climb back from the center and few shops on the hill.
Avtokarkhana
An outlying district of apartment blocks built around the former car factory. Housing is cheaper, and most trips to the center are by bus or minibus.

The center is easy to cover on foot, and the picture changes quickly once you leave it. Kutaisi neighborhoods are not sold by name the way Vake or Vera are in the capital, so the address matters more than the label. The cost of living in Kutaisi is lower than in Tbilisi, and the price for that is choice: fewer clinics and schools, and not much open late.

Is Kutaisi safe? It is generally considered a calm city. The practical concerns are dim side streets, uneven sidewalks and traffic on the main roads. The airport is well outside the city, so living near it is not living in Kutaisi. Score the address for groceries, transport and clinics before deciding whether you would need a car.
