Score a neighbourhood by your own places, not averages

Add your office, gym and school to an address report. On 13 Tverskaya Street three places within seven minutes lift 87.7 to 88.7; elsewhere they cut it.

The average resident does not live in your flat

A neighbourhood score tells you what is near for a person in general: a supermarket, a pharmacy, a stop, a park. That is useful while you choose between cities. Once you are down to two flats, another question takes over: how far is this door from your office, your gym and the school your child already attends?

13 Tverskaya Street in Moscow scores 87.7 out of 100 (report of 2 October 2026). For someone who works at Belorusskaya and someone who commutes to Moscow City, that number means different things. So every report has a block called "My places": up to three addresses that matter to you and to nobody else.

What the block does

Open a report and add a place: a label and an address picked from the suggestions. For each place the report shows three things.

  • The distance in a straight line.
  • The walk, when the place lies inside the street network loaded for the report: minutes on the clock and the minutes it "counts as", with crossings and slope.
  • Public transport: the nearest stop to home, the nearest stop to the place, and the lines that serve both without a change.

The places stay in your browser. They go to the server only for the check and are not kept there. The stored report and its score never change; a second number appears beside it, marked "your view".

What a place is worth

The rule is the one used for shops and pharmacies, with more patience. Up to five minutes on foot a place counts in full; at thirty minutes it counts for nothing. At eight minutes 96% is left, at twelve 79%, at fifteen 62%, at twenty a third, at twenty-five a tenth.

When the walk is too long, a direct line helps. If home and the place are each under ten minutes from a stop and one line connects the two stops, the place is worth 0.6. With a change, or a long walk to the stop, it is worth nothing.

Your places enter the score as a twelfth line. Its default weight is 15%, and the eleven categories shrink in proportion to 85%. You can move that weight with a slider like any other. A place that cannot be walked to and has no direct line stays out of the score: its ways are shown in the block, and the score does not move for it.

13 Tverskaya Street: three places within seven minutes

Take three places from the report itself, as if they were yours: the Varyag gym, School No. 1520 and the Chalet Studio coworking.

The three average 99.7%. The eleven categories earned 93.17; with the places the sum is 0.85 × 93.17 + 15 × 0.997 = 94.15. The air penalty stays at 5.48. "Your view" is 88.7 against 87.7 in the report. The gain is small because the address is strong already; it confirms that this building fits this set of places.

The same building, a different life

Now change the places. Keep the coworking, move the gym to a twenty-minute walk and put the office where one direct metro line goes. Worth: 1, 0.33 and 0.6, an average of 0.64. The sum: 0.85 × 93.17 + 15 × 0.64 = 88.8, less 5.48, which gives 83.4.

The building and the street are the same, yet 5.3 points separate the two tenants, and the general score cannot see that gap. It is also why somebody else's "best neighbourhood" can turn out awkward for you.

Where it shows most

The further your place is from what the general score picks, the further the two numbers drift apart. At 13 Tverskaya Street the nearest kindergarten, Baby Club, is 357 metres away, five minutes on foot. If your child already goes to the Zhuravushka pre-school of School No. 2123, that is 787 metres and 11 minutes, and the place no longer counts in full. The Tsentr vet clinic is 1,582 metres away, a 21-minute walk: less than a third of its value is left. The general score will not show a dog owner that; your own places show it at once.

The metro works the other way. Tverskaya, Pushkinskaya and Chekhovskaya stations are six minutes on foot, and three lines stop there: Zamoskvoretskaya, Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya and Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya. An office by any station of those lines, even across the city, earns its 0.6 from a direct line.

Okhotny Ryad is 10 minutes away, so an office on the Sokolnicheskaya line gets no direct line from this building, even though it is the centre of the city. The same address can be excellent for one commute and awkward for another, and only your own places tell the two apart.

Choosing where to live in a city you are moving to

The order is simple, and it saves viewings.

  • Write down up to three places you go to every week. Rare trips do not count.
  • Open a report for each listing and add the same places to each.
  • Compare "your view", not just the general score. Five points between two flats is more common than it sounds.
  • Look at the lines. A place with neither walking minutes nor a direct line means a journey with a change.

If you have more than three places, keep the frequent ones. A school five times a week outweighs a theatre once a month.

For anyone moving abroad the block does one more job. The school that takes your child is rarely the nearest one, and the coworking you have already paid for is a fixed point. The general score counts the nearest of each kind. Your places count the ones you will use.

What the block does not know

A walking route is computed only inside the street network loaded for the report, about a mile around the home. An office on the far side of the city gets no walking time, only the check for direct lines. Open data holds almost no timetables, so the report names the lines and leaves frequency and travel time to you.

If an outside service does not answer in time, the place is marked "could not check" and stays out of the sum. Try again in a minute.

How the minutes and the value curve work is explained on the page How it is calculated. The full report for 13 Tverskaya Street is open as a sample, and more Moscow addresses are on the Moscow page.

Questions

How many places can I add?

Up to three. They are kept in your browser and are not tied to an account.

Does the score of a report I share change?

No. The stored score stays as it was; the number that includes your places is marked "your view".

What if a place can only be reached with a change of line?

Then it is worth zero. The sum takes a walk of up to 30 minutes or one direct line with under ten minutes of walking at each end.
